Description

Hello everyone and welcome to my second 'Top 10' list. Today, I will be going through 10 of my favorite animated villains from films, tv shows, anime and comics.

WARNING! May contain some spoilers and cheesy jokes.

#10: Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter)

One of anime's most popular villains, Hisoka is one guy you don't want to meet. He is a sadistic clown with twisted desires and is attracted to strong foes, such as main character, Gon (who is 12 years old!). Despite being of the major villains of Hunter x Hunter, Hisoka steals the show whenever he's on screen. He's funny, unpredictable and down right creepy, Hisoka will go down in history as one of anime/manga's most charming and creepy villains.

#9: Judge Claude Frollo (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame)

Another creepy villain one this list, Frollo is many people's favourite Disney villain and for good reasons. He is a judge who has a deep prejudice against gypsies and has made it his duty to wipe them off the face of Paris. However, his villainy goes down into creepiness when he falls in love with the gypsy, Esmeralda, and threatens to execute her if she doesn't love him back. But what makes him even more despicable is that he tries to justify his actions in the name of God himself. One of Disney's most sinister and conflicted villains, Frollo is one judge you don't want on the jury.

#8: Meruem aka The Chimera Ant King (Hunter x Hunter)

Hands down, best Hunter x Hunter villain ever. Meruem is one of the most powerful and complex villains in anime and manga. He was born to rule over all beings, particually humans, but his story takes a completely unexpected turn when he meets a blind girl called Komugi as he becomes more fascinated by the fact that he is unable to beat her in a chess-like game called Gungi. For a character to start off as he was, Meruem's story is one of greatest examples of character development in any manga or anime.

#7: Vicious (Cowboy Bebop)

With a name like 'Vicious', you know this guy is a nasty piece of work. Vicious has many tropes that make a great villain, he's power-hungry, bloodthirsty and will take down anyone who gets in his way. His main goal is to take over the Red Dragon crime syndicate (in which he is a member) with the help of his girlfriend, Julia, and his friend, Spike Spiegel (the main character of Bebop). However, once he finds out that both Spike and Julia had been seeing eachother behind his back, his goal now is not only to take complete control of the syndicate, but to also hunt down and kill Spike. Vicious doesn't just send his goons after Spike, he lures Spike to him by targeting the ones he cares for the most and even attempts to blackmailing Julia to kill Spike herself. With his cold demeanor and brutal tactics, Vicious is one guy you don't want to come across.

#6: Father (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

Probably the most powerful villain on this list, Father was created by alchemy from the blood of Van Hohenheim (the Elric Brother's father) for the King of Xerxes as a source of knowledge for alchemy, making him the first homunculus to ever be created. But later, Father grew jealous of humanity and with his power, destroyed the land of Xerxes, leaving Hohenheim alive and immortal and taking on his appearence. Hundreds of years later, he has created seven homunculi from his own 7 deadly sins and became the secret ruler of Amestris. Father's main goal is to absorb all the alchemic power in the universe and become the new God of the world. With his mighty power and seven homunculi at his disposal, Father is one "God" you don't want to rule the universe.

#5: Friend (20th Century Boys)

Prossibly the most underrated villain on this list, Friend is one of those villains who's identity is unknown but keeps you guessing on who he really is. Friend started off as the leader of a mysterious religious cult who wanted nothing more than what any villains wants, to rule the world. But there's more to this guy then meets the eye, he claims to be the father of Kenji Endo's (the main character) niece, Kanna and is possibly someone who Kenji knew from his childhood. What's even worse is that after Bloody New Years Eve, Friend has now become the leader of Japan and framed Kenji and his friends for the disaster, which he himself coordinated. What makes Friend scary is not only does he have a whole country on his side, he also has the entire world behind him. He may not have taken over the world yet (I'm still reading the manga), but he has fooled the entire world into believing that he is a hero and that Kenji is the evil terrorist that caused Bloody New Years Eve. Another thing about Friend is that he's not just one person, so it can be anybody under that mask (be aware, I have not finished that manga as of yet so I might be wrong about this).

#4: The Joker (Batman films, tv shows, comics, etc)

Probably the most iconic comic book villain of all time, The Joker is Batman's greatest nemesis whether he's in a film, tv show or video game, he always steals the show. I couldn't possibly name all the horrible things that the Joker has done, but here are a few - he shot Barbera Gordon (Batgirl), causing her to become paralysed and killed Jason Todd (the second Robin). No wonder Batman hates his guts! Honestly I don't have much to say, IT'S THE JOKER!!!

#3: Scar (The Lion King)

Be honest, are you surprised? Probably not, Scar is one of the most iconic villains, not just in animation, but in films all together. I'm pretty sure you all know what he did that was so evil, he murdered his own brother, King Mufasa, and told his nephew, Simba, to run away because of his guilt, all for becoming the king himself. Despite being such a despicable bastard, I can't help but love him. He's smug and threatening at the same time, and I love him for it. I hope that The Lion Guard will focus on his past. But you're probably wondering, why is Scar not at number one? What two villains can possibly top him? Well, let's go on to our next two villains.

#2: Light Yagami (Death Note)

Don't let the name fool you, this guy is one cruel son of a bitch. Light was once a successful scholar who had a bright future ahead of him, but he was bored of his life and was appalled by the crime that happended around him. But one day, his life changed when he found a 'Death Note', dropped by a Shinigami (god of death), Ryuk. The Death Note gave Light the power to kill anyone by simply writing their names in the notebook and remembering their faces. Under the alias 'Kira', Light used the Death Note to kill all the criminals in the world and create a perfect new world with no evil people left. However, the power got to his head pretty quickly and he not only wanted to create a new world, but rule over it a it's 'God'. The sad thing about Light is that he started off with good intentions. He wanted the world to be a better place for humanity, but once the power of the Death Note got to him, he had become the one thing he was trying to eliminate, evil. But not only did he kill criminals, he also targeted people who got in his way such as the police who were trying to stop his reign of terror. When I first watched Death Note, Light was my number one favourite villain of all time, but that changed when I saw an anime with probably The Greatest Villain Of All Time! Who is this villain? Let's see shall we?

#1: Johan Liebert (Monster)

Here he is, this is the guy that I consider the greatest villain of all time. You wanna know how evil he is? The title of the show 'Monster' says so! On the outside, Johan may seem like a charismatic, polite and intelligent young man who can easily be liked by anyone he meets. But on the inside, he's a sociopathic, unsympathetic and murderous individual who cares nothing about human life. He is able to hide his true nature easily which makes it easy for him to manipulate anyone into doing what he wants. Most of the time, he doesn't murder anyone himself, he gets others to do it for him or getting them to commit suicide. His past is mysterious but it is hinted that Johan was probably born the way he is. But what makes Johan truly terrifying is how realistic of a villain he is. Villains like Light and Father had supernatural powers to help them (Light with the Death Note and Father with alchemy), Johan didn't need any of those, he only needed his own intelligence and manipulation to commit his evil deeds, and this is why I consider Johan Liebert to be the greatest villlain of all time, even if he is slightly underrated.

HONERABLE MENTIONS

Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII)
Ragyo Kiryuin (Kill la Kill)
Envy (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

Shou Tucker (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Jafar (Aladdin)
Millions Knives (Trigun)
Chrollo Lucilfer (Hunter x Hunter)
Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty)
Rod Lucci (One Piece)
Neferpitou (Hunter x Hunter)

So that was my list, I hope you liked it and please comment in what you think. Thanks! :D
